Wrinkles can occur in any part of the face, especially as we age. It’s ideal to prevent the formation of static lines and catch them while they are still dynamic (only visible with movement of muscles). Very common problem areas include the forehead, lines around the eyes (also known as crows lines), wrinkles around the nose (also known as bunny lines), lines around the border of the lips (also known as smoker’s lines or perioral lines). Our doctors are experts at treating all of these!
The treatment
There are many products on the market to reduce wrinkles, but the skill to best achieve graceful aging comes from the experience and education of the provider injecting you. To properly reduce the appearance of wrinkles, it is vital that the provider understands the distribution of your wrinkles, the strength and function of your muscles, the surface area being injected, and how much or how little residual movement you desire.
Wrinkle concerns are addressed in various ways.
For the forehead wrinkles, crows lines, elevens, bunny lines, and perioral lines, Botox can be used to relax the muscles causing the wrinkling. Some wrinkles can be filled in with a filler like Belotero.
Vampire facials as they are commonly called, or PRP microneedling, can help minimize the overall look of wrinkles in the face. PRP (Platelet-Rich-Plasma) is a component of your blood and has tons of growth factors that help collagen production and overall skin glow. About fifteen minutes after applying a topical anesthetic and cleaning the area to be treated, we use use a device that has tiny needles to rejuvinate your skin. The procedure is great for improving fine lines around your eyes and lips for a more youthful look.
If you have wrinkles on the hands, the biostimulant Radiesse can be helpful as it fills and promotes collagen formation to smooth out the skin.
In some cases, threads can be of benefit to reduce wrinkles. Small disintegrating threads are inserted under the skin. The body produces collagen around these threads as they disintegrate. You’re left with more volume which minimizes the appearance of wrinkles.
In other cases a biostimulant such as Sculptra can be useful to reduce wrinkles on the face.
There are different expectations for each wrinkle treatment.
Botox is typically done every 3 months to sustain the desired effect, but you’ll see the full results in two weeks.
Vampire facials require 1-3 sessions, with each session at least one month apart.
The effects of Radiesse are seen immediately and can last up to two years. The effects of Sculptra accumulate gradually with each round of treatment and can last up to two years.
Hyaluronic acid filler results are seen immediately. The duration of hyaluronic acid filler effectiveness varies depending on the type of filler being used and the location it is being injected.
